Dave Lyons serves as a grievance advocate under contract to several public employee unions in Virginia, including a number of VCOPS/IUPA Locals and IAFF unions. He has represented public safety workers at every level of the grievance procedure in Virginia for 25 years. He is currently working directly with the leadership of VCOPS, and our General Counsel, to provide effective grievance representation to IUPA members throughout Virginia. Dave retired as a Captain from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in 2002, after a 26 year career as a paramedic and firefighter. During this time, he has served on the Executive Board of IAFF 2068 as vice president and director. His primary responsibility has been grievances, but he also has worked extensively in political action and program development. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts in Labor Studies from the George Meany Center (Antioch University), and was recognized by the GMC faculty for the most Outstanding Senior Paper.
